Kindle Fire (Updated a couple of times)

OK. I'm just about beside myself, tonight: I received (2) monetary gifts, for Christmas, that allowed me to purchase a Kindle Fire, and...I just finished placing the order and...am about to BURST, from excitement, waiting for it!!!! "Why?" you ask? 'Cuz I do a lot of moving around and I'm not terribly fond of lugging my laptop around w/me, and regretting when I haven't; and...I got a taste of what a Smartphone could do, with my Samsung Intercept but...ended up having to back off of my data plan. Fortunately, I am still able to use it, wherever I have access to WIFI so...not a complete loss! I had only been wishing that the screen was bigger and, yeah, sure...wouldn't it be nice to be able to have access to the Kindle books, that I have already accumulated, while waiting somewhere? So...I think that this will be a wonderful alternative to the iPad, allowing me to: 1) access the web; 2) check e-mail; 3) read books on the go; and 4) watch movies and listen to music! COOL! And...the screen is much bigger than my Samsung Intercept so...that's another plus, as well! :-D

UPDATE: I STILL can't believe it: I decided to order it "slow mo," so that I wouldn't see it, until January 3rd, so that I wouldn't have to pay the pesky shipping and...the very next day, I receive an e-mail saying that the thing has shipped and...that it would be here, Friday!!! And...d'ya know what? Before I could even roll out of bed, Friday, it had been DELIVERED!!!!!!!!!

I'm showing MUCH RESTRAINT: I'm holding off opening it...until everyone else opens their Christmas pressies, tonight! This may be the BEST Christmas pressie I have ever gotten! I'll let you know, after I check it out! :-D

Up-to-the-minute update: I don't remember the last time I had this much fun w/a gadget! EVERYTHING IS HERE!! Onboard ONE Mothership! COOL!! :-D OK so...WIFI can be a little slow, at times, but...even with that being a [minor] hindrance to me (I don't play video games er nuttin' where a lot of processing is needed!), I watched an entire Amazon-streamed HD documentary on Steve Jobs (very good; warmly recommended! :-) without even ONE hiccup so...I am HAPPY! :-D And...yes...I can see where some sort of 'G' value would be nice...on some future build...but...I'm pretty impressed with what this thing is capable of doing, for it's price range! And...I don't have to dump a bunch of money into keeping any 3-5G running so...that is also a bonus, at this time in my life! So...if you're looking for a less expensive version of what most people get online for and...let's not forget the Kindle's beginnings...as a dedicated e-reader...the Kindle Fire is wonderful! :-D

Good luck on this one TC. :-) I'd have most likely ripped that package apart the moment I shut the door. :-(

I really know what you mean, Tommy; that's how I usually operate but...I don't want my kids all up in my face trying to play with it, the instant that I take it out of the box! I want to play with my toy for a little while, first! :-D

And...I'm feeling a little guilty for, FINALLY, having gotten one. It's quite a luxury item, for me, but...I just couldn't stand to be too practical (I was actually thinking of getting a new floor lamp; what the heck was I thinking?! lol!) one more time!

TODAY, I, FINALLY, get to open it and PLAY!!! YAY!! :-D

Merry Christmas to you, Tommy! Hope you and your family are enjoying a nice Christmas, together. Hoping your wife is doing better, as well, after that CRAZY shower incident!

Yes, it seems many people like the size over the iPad's. It'll be interesting to see if Apple will stick to their guns about the "no middle sizes allowed".

I only think it's slightly hard to hold, very slick. It helped when I put rubber pads on the back.

I was looking to comment on your post "Pictures I LOVE", the one with my boat photo, but there's no way to comment or even see the post by itself. Very odd. Any idea why?

I wanted to tell that when I'd just made that picture in the nineties, I had it on my wall. And one morning very early, I woke up, and the just-rising sun was framed by trees and buildings to make a little square, hitting the wall at an astute angle, *exactly* framing this photo! Like a spotlight from the almighty.

Congrats on the Fire, I've no doubt it'll be of great service.

(funny: thought I had already posted this, last night. I think I have ADHD; I must have gotten distracted! lol!) :-/

I agree. That will be interesting to see. A bit silly, methinks. Hey! The 'Big Boss' isn't around, any longer; just maybe... :-D

'I only think it's slightly hard to hold, very slick."

Yes that and...it's quite heavy, as well! And...funny enough, I saw an article on 'Pulse' (LOVE that! Curious: do you get that on your KF, over there?) re: a "best case" for a Fire (uh...that's where I got distracted; although, funny enough, I never even got to further researching it! I found the page and then...stopped! Wonder what else distracted me! lol! (and, no, it wasn't the movie; I got too tired to even start it!)). IMHO, that isn't too costly of a case...when you consider what it can do! I have just seen covers, for Kindles, that cost $30 and they only have ONE function!

"It helped when I put rubber pads on the back."

Funny enough: I don't even like to hold it...not even to read with! Granted, I haven't had much time to do that with it, yet, but...yeah...I was thinking of getting a small, wooden plate stand or something to hold it up (I have a nice recipe book stand, for when I sit and eat and want to read a regular book, but, obviously, I need to be able to TOUCH the Fire. :-) but...this would, most definitely, be a more secure way of doing same!

And...I was going to show you the solution I found to incorporate my purse contents and make room for the Fire, on-the-go: http://alturl.com/pk8sq I'm quite pleased: I couldn't find a cover and I sure a heck didn't want to walk around with it, "naked"...afraid that I would drop it, so...I found this purse, yesterday, for a mere $15, so...I am quite happy w/the results! It's only a little larger than my other "purse," as you can see...which is nice because I'm not terribly fond of having to use a purse! :-D

It's because it's just the picture of it, at the bottom of my post. I made it such, until I can afford to make a BIG portrait of it and hang it on my wall! :-D I did this, when I, first, started the blog. I wanted it, here, because I LOVE it that much! I, often, think about how COOL it would be to be able to go back to that spot and be able to find that same, beautiful little boat right where you, first, took a picture of it. And...to learn that it wasn't that long ago, makes that possibility all the more...possible; don't you think that would be cool to re-discover? :-D (It has all the elements that I love: tranquil pic of water and...a boat, of course. :-) And...there's a fantasy in there, somewhere, as well. A screen play that I haven't written, yet! :-D

"I wanted to tell that when I'd just made that picture in the nineties, I had it on my wall."

Do you still have it?

"And one morning very early, I woke up, and the just-rising sun was framed by trees and buildings to make a little square, hitting the wall at an astute angle, *exactly* framing this photo! Like a spotlight from the almighty."

Yes...how beautiful of a sight that must have been! I have to admit that: I do remember you telling me about that but...I had, actually, forgotten about it. Thanks for recounting it for me, again. Very sweet. It gives me some ideas re: where to hang it, whenever I get a chance to make one, myself. Thanks. :-)

"Congrats on the Fire, I've no doubt it'll be of great service."

Thanks, Eo. Yes...I agree: I think that it will be a wonderful and practical tool for doing what I do most: check out and comment on blogs; read books and online articles; check e-mails (the on-screen keyoard will keep any of those brief! lol!); and...one of my favorite things: watch movies in bed! Well...I like to do all the above, in same, so...something small and portable, like this Fire, is wonderful for me! :-D

That's a nice purse at a great price.

Glad I'm not the only one who finds the KF to be a bit heavy.

Re the stand, look at:
http://alturl.com/h22xy

I don't have the print up, though it must be somewhere.

The boat is not so little, it holds at least 20 people, it's a tour boat, it has a route across the lakes there.

Thanks. I quite like it, myself. It's not leather; just vinyl. I don't much care. It looks OK. I just wanted something practical that I could carry the Fire around in. :-)

"Glad I'm not the only one who finds the KF to be a bit heavy."

Yeah. I'm having some wrist issue so...the weight is quite noticeable, right now. :-(

"Re the stand, look at:

Thanks. Decisions, decisions; I can't decide. :-( Besides the obvious, I like #'s 8 and especially #15 (but would someone please show me if it can hold it in portrait length?!); and...#61...sort of. 101 is quite interesting, as well. Hmmm...#138...

"I don't have the print up, though it must be somewhere."

Hope so! :-D

Sounds nice. I just really love the wood in it; LOVE wooden boats. :-) That would be fun to go take a tour. It would be even better if they had the Danish hot dogs, for lunch! That would be so good. Bring back memories of a ferry ride... :-)

Eo...

Just had to share this with you:

I walked through the house w/the Fire sitting in a glasses case, chuckling, as I went, showing J on my way to the kitchen, showing him what I had found to hold the Fire. He's sitting at the computer, playing a computer game, and...all of a sudden, he jumps up and runs to his room. I hear a little "rowing around" and all of a sudden, he's in the kitchen presenting me with the very plate stand that I had envisioned using for the Fire!! Pretty WILD, huh?! "Great minds think alike!" I was just IMPRESSED that he even thought about it and how I had never even suggested it to him! And...how FAST he "processed" that need! I was IMPRESSED! That's my boy! :-D

Oh and...also took picture (a little blurry, I just noticed; sorry!) of the 3 different ways that the purse can be used w/its straps. I still like to keep it low to my left side. It feels the most practical...for me. :-D

Yes, that's very cool.

(WEIRD how BOTH your and my posts post DOUBLE on this blog but Tommy's didn't! Wonder what that's all about!)

Also meant to tell you that I watched 'Christmas Lodge (another FREE Prime! Yay! :-D,' last night. I was looking at the credits and am having a little bit 'o difficulty finding out more about where it was filmed (even on IMDb, sadly!) but...I think it was filmed, in Vancouver, Canada! Now, I'm "homesick" for the "Canadian" trees and forests! :-( Please watch, if you can. I think you would enjoy it. There's a pretty girl and some beautiful wilderness shots. I really enjoyed it. Lovely Canadian movie. :-D

Hey, Eo...

Check out what I just tripped on; a ferry ride from London to DK! COOL! :-D I didn't know there was such a thing; did you?! Who woulda thunk?! That looks like a BLAST! :-D

TC [Girl] said...

There's just a 4-hour trip, south, to the terminal, from where you live! I wonder if there is a train going there, from your area. Probably; right?

TC [Girl] said...

Wow! What a PAIN! Checked the distance, on Google: 4 hours' drive. The fastest train ride? 7(!!) hours?! CRAZY! I'd taxi it if I were you!! :-D
