Kindle Fire (Updated a couple of times)

OK. I'm just about beside myself, tonight: I received (2) monetary gifts, for Christmas, that allowed me to purchase a Kindle Fire, and...I just finished placing the order and...am about to BURST, from excitement, waiting for it!!!! "Why?" you ask? 'Cuz I do a lot of moving around and I'm not terribly fond of lugging my laptop around w/me, and regretting when I haven't; and...I got a taste of what a Smartphone could do, with my Samsung Intercept but...ended up having to back off of my data plan. Fortunately, I am still able to use it, wherever I have access to WIFI so...not a complete loss! I had only been wishing that the screen was bigger and, yeah, sure...wouldn't it be nice to be able to have access to the Kindle books, that I have already accumulated, while waiting somewhere? So...I think that this will be a wonderful alternative to the iPad, allowing me to: 1) access the web; 2) check e-mail; 3) read books on the go; and 4) watch movies and listen to music! COOL! And...the screen is much bigger than my Samsung Intercept so...that's another plus, as well! :-D

UPDATE: I STILL can't believe it: I decided to order it "slow mo," so that I wouldn't see it, until January 3rd, so that I wouldn't have to pay the pesky shipping and...the very next day, I receive an e-mail saying that the thing has shipped and...that it would be here, Friday!!! And...d'ya know what? Before I could even roll out of bed, Friday, it had been DELIVERED!!!!!!!!!

I'm showing MUCH RESTRAINT: I'm holding off opening it...until everyone else opens their Christmas pressies, tonight! This may be the BEST Christmas pressie I have ever gotten! I'll let you know, after I check it out! :-D

Up-to-the-minute update: I don't remember the last time I had this much fun w/a gadget! EVERYTHING IS HERE!! Onboard ONE Mothership! COOL!! :-D OK so...WIFI can be a little slow, at times, but...even with that being a [minor] hindrance to me (I don't play video games er nuttin' where a lot of processing is needed!), I watched an entire Amazon-streamed HD documentary on Steve Jobs (very good; warmly recommended! :-) without even ONE hiccup so...I am HAPPY! :-D And...yes...I can see where some sort of 'G' value would be nice...on some future build...but...I'm pretty impressed with what this thing is capable of doing, for it's price range! And...I don't have to dump a bunch of money into keeping any 3-5G running so...that is also a bonus, at this time in my life! So...if you're looking for a less expensive version of what most people get online for and...let's not forget the Kindle's beginnings...as a dedicated e-reader...the Kindle Fire is wonderful! :-D

What to Get Your Girl for Christmas

With just one weekend left, before Christmas, for gift-buying, it seemed that the time was ripe to offer some suggestions, for those who aren’t terribly fond of this task. There are several factors to consider, before heading out or going online to find that special someone the “perfect” gift:

Budget – First off, don’t break the bank trying to give her something that says that you love and know her; nobody will feel good about such a purchase! See what you, realistically, can afford and are comfortable spending and set that as your limit.

Gift Ideas – Have you got some sort of idea of what your special lady might be wishing for? If not, have you asked her? Does she like to give you a list or…have you tried to figure it out, on your own? The latter is what many girls/women prefer; it “says” that you made an effort to give her something that you know she would be pleased to receive!

Oftentimes, the items she points out, while you’re out on the town, or shares with you, whenever you’re together, would be good indicators of things that she enjoys and will give you plenty of ideas to choose from. Mostly, it is how well you have paid attention, during the times that she has shared, that show her how well you really know her and what she really likes, when it comes to gift-giving; so…make your best efforts to always be listening, attentively, and…take notes.

Surprises or Not – Does your special someone enjoy surprise gifts or does she prefer to have chosen an item, herself? This is quite important because…if the item that you give her, as a surprise, isn’t quite what she had hoped for, it’s almost a guarantee that it won’t be used! It’s difficult to buy the “perfect” gift, if you don’t know her tastes very well. Some of the categories that this might be the case in could be jewelry, perfume, handbags, electronic gadgets, or clothes… just to name a few.

What Type of Gift – Some girls like jewelry and perfume but you’d be surprised to discover how practical your girl might be. Again…it’s a matter of knowing her tastes and how particular she is about gifts. For instance, she may like kitchen gadgets or need some new string bikinis but…don’t let either be a Christmas gift…especially not the latter, at an extended family gathering! Surprise her with one of these types of gifts, that she has been either needing or wanting, some other time of the year; you’ll earn Brownie Points for having remembered and given it, then!

Has it been a hectic year and you, both, could use a break? Why not give her the gift of a mini-vacation, the week between Christmas and New Years when many get the week off. Oftentimes, just a couple of nights away can be enough time. Preparing for Christmas can be a very taxing time and a little rejuvenating alone time, with you, might be the best gift you could ever give her! Take her to a place that she has mentioned wanting to visit. Make sure to check her availability, first, before booking the trip, of course! A casual question of “So…what are we doing, after Christmas?” and “Just curious.” can be a good way to get beyond further questioning and ruining the Christmas surprise!

A Time and a Place – As mentioned, above, getting your girl her favorite string bikini underwear to open in front of an extended family gathering is not an ideal setting, so…choose the best time and place to offer your special gifts. Christmastime is also a time when many like to propose to their girl. As special of a time as it is, be sensitive to the fact that it is a very personal decision and choose a special, private spot that won’t be the kitchen or living room of a family gathering. Choose a setting that becomes the backdrop to one of the most memorable days in both of your lives. There will be time to share the happy news, later…whenever your proposal has been accepted!

Baby Bowen Overcomes a Heart Defect

LOVE this WONDERFUL song! It was written for this artist's, Matt Hammitt's, little boy but...it's also about our relationship with God: do we turn our lives over to Him and let Him Lead and Guide us, trusting that He [of course] Knows what's best for us or...are we going to CHOOSE to live our lives as we see fit...NOT knowing the whole picture as intricately as God does! It says, in the Bible, in Psalm 139, verse 16: "Your eyes did see my substance, being yet unformed; and in your book they were all written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them." Isn't that BEAUTIFUL?! We've got Someone Who Created us AND Knows EVERYTHING there is to know about us! So...the DECISION is ALWAYS: "are we going to TRUST and OBEY Christ OR...are we going to go on our own path...which usually ends up creating much greater PAIN than had we gone God's Direction!

I think this song could also be used...to tell someone of your love for them; that you always plan to be with them...no matter what! And...the most beautiful place I could see it being used, of course, would be for a wedding song.

Growing Old

OK...I'm going to voice some things that I have been pondering for a few days, now; or weeks, actually: About 3 weeks ago, I started taking care of a near-Centenarian (and why are they called 'Centenarian' and not 'Centurians,' I wonder?! That seems to make more sense to me than the former!) and...I have to tell you straight out: granted, I probably won't be around to celebrate my 100th birthday BUT...IF I get to the point of: senility; alzheimer's; or anything else where my scruples are missing, I really just DON'T want to be around, any longer!!!!!!! Pain, of course, is one thing that would not be much fun to have to live with but...oh, man...having to take stool softeners because I can't get up and move around...because my knees hurt too much?! Well, heck...I could say that, right now: my knees are KILLING me from ALL the SQUATS that I'm having to do pushing down and pulling back up britches for the lady to go to the loo! And...I DON'T want someone else wiping my butt! And...I wouldn't want anyone forcing all sorts of pills down my throat, neither; nor...meals every two hours! I look at ALL the efforts of 8(!!) PEOPLE who are employed to care for ONE elderly person and I am just FLOORED at the efforts!!!! YES...it's NICE to have a "nice, long life" but...if you just sit under an electric blanket wearing men's cotton work gloves, all day, just to keep your hands warm AND you're BLIND and hard of hearing even with expensive hearing aids...I don't think that the "quality of life" is very much there, anymore!

And...of course, then, there are the "mad men" like Hitler and Stalin (and, of course, MANY in modern times, I'm SURE!!) who just want to get rid of any and everyone who isn't just "perfect," anymore; hence, why the Dr. Kevorkians of the world aren't allowed to offer their "goodwill" services very readily...although I understand that Sweden seems to have implemented this Euthanasia thing and seem to be quite a "happy nation" for it! But...therein lies the real question: "Where is the line drawn?" Yes...I "get" that these are "terminal illnesses" that get dealt with like this; but, also, how many fudge this term so that they can just get rid of people who are aging?

For now, I'm still just hoping that I will have a long and happy life and...then drift off, in my sleep so as not to bother anyone much. Being with this elderly woman and also reflecting on the death of someone who, up until getting a rare form of pancreatic cancer, could probably have lived a couple of decades longer, makes me just wonder "WHY?" Or...the people who are so loved by a gazillion people die and...then there are people like me that seem to have alienated myself to most of the world, not even trying; I think that the only 2 that would notice if I were gone would be my children! :-(

So...what are your thoughts on aging and the whole euthanasia thing? What do you think needs to take place when the "quality of life" ends before your "earthly vessel" does?

Arguably the BEST band in HISTORY; (yes...probably tied w/Pink Floyd, Ray! lol! :-D I LOVE this band!!!!! I gave myself the BEST birthday gift that I had ever gotten, by taking myself and a friend of mine out to see Eagles for my 40th birthday...already 8 years ago, now! (My how time flies!) I paid $150/seat and I have NEVER regretted it! What I saw, that night, were some old rockers who STILL had it after 40(!!) YEARS!!! How many bands can boast that kind of a record?! Not many!! Guaranteed!

I, immediately, loved them from the first time I heard 'Their Greatest Hits' album! I was HOOKED!

Sheesh! Nice body work but...$89K for it?! NUTS! It's just a 2002 Mercury Cougar coupe body and ENGINE with a "pretty" exterior! The coupe is only worth about $6K! Dude put 9 months of sweat equity into it. Think his sweat equity is worth $83K (taking the coupe cost out of here, of course)?! If that's the case, dude is paying himself $9,222.22 a month for that "little" project!! (LOVE it! ALL those 2's! lol! :-)

Is there a SUCKER out there that is willing to pay this price, I wonder?! I'll eat my hat, if there is!!!!!!! But...it is "pretty" to look at! I'd rather just buy the REAL DEAL (if I could, of course! ;-) 'cuz...it's not ALL about what's on the outside; right, my friends? Much of what a person is buying one for...is under the hood! :-P WISH guys "got" that about women, as well! :-(

Jaycee Dugard

Well...I'm going to hit a pretty tough subject, here, because I feel that it is so very important. It's about the safety of children, in this country (any country, really...of course), against sexual predators. It's been swept under the rug for way too long, I believe, and...thankfully, Jaycee grabbed the "bull by the horns" and tackled it like the bravest person I have ever heard of, in her new memoir 'A Stolen Life.' Of course, it was just released but, if you haven't heard about this case, Diane Sawyer did an interview with Jaycee, just a couple of nights ago. This particular case, after clearing quite a few cobwebs in my mind, hit pretty close to home because I was living in the state at the time and...I can remember Jaycee as well as several other young girls going missing around about the same time and...I stayed fixed to the television, morning and night, hoping for good outcomes for all of them!

And...here is another interview from the time (gosh how time flies! It didn't seem that long ago!) that Jaycee was found. It's heartbreaking and gut wrenching; and...many will just want to [do the usual]: turn a blind eye to a very prevalent problem in our nation - that of the many children that go missing each and every year.

In addition to that issue, is also the APPALLING and OUTRAGEOUS manner in which MONTHLY visits to this pedophile ENTIRELY MISSED - 60 TIMES!!! - the fact that Jaycee was living out in the back yard, first in a LOCKED storage container and then, in a tent, for 18 YEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As DIFFICULT as it must have been to have to go through all the details, in detail, to write this HORRIFIC account, I am so in AWE of Jaycee for having made the effort...to educate parents, law enforcement, ALL of us in how to pay more attention and be more vigilant in the protection of young children EVERYWHERE!!

Thank you, Jaycee, for your bravery; and thank your mom for NEVER giving up hope that this HORRIFIC ordeal might someday end in a BEAUTIFUL REUNION! I am SO PROUD of you for your "Will of STEEL!" And...I'm SO PROUD of how AWESOME the first day of the sale of your book is doing! Bravo!

I believe that we ALL should read it...except, perhaps, for pedophiles! :-/ Perhaps they just ought to RUN to the nearest psychologist and get the HELP that they DESPERATELY NEED!! When I hear about these men, I, often, wonder what their childhoods were like; and...where do their ferocious, twisted, and SICK "appetites" for children come from: was it their own undiscovered childhood horrors that exacerbates this type of behavior; is it fueled from having looked at nude magazines, like Ted Bundy, himself, claims is where it began for him? Sadly, many (all?) seem to be psychotic and also get into believing that they are "god" or some "supreme being," like in Elizabeth Smart's case, as well. We need to find ways of dealing with people that "seem strange" WAY before it's on the other end of a string of victims, dammit! There were SEVERAL events that lead up to this case, as were shown on the 2nd interview! How can things go so awry, you wonder? And how can an agency, who is "supposed to" be "keeping watch" on people like this, be so IGNORANT and LAZY?! I tell you what, though: they need to have more than ONE person go into a home like that as...those people are not well! How they end up being left unattended, for ONE MINUTE, is a mystery to me! :-(

Please read the book and...GET EDUCATED about how to help "keep watch" over ALL of our children...TOGETHER!

Here's a young lady that I've known about, for a few years. I think she's an excellent singer of songs from an era that preceded her; and...she has had this knack, at quite a young age, as well. In fact, she put out her first album at the "ripe old age" of...11!!

Here's her bio and...wow...how I didn't even realize that she had been a child actress, as well, at the whopping beginning age of...6 was quite a surprise to discover! One of my most favorite songs that she does, I haven't been able to find on uboob but it's called 'Slow Boat To China.' It's SO CUTE! I'll just keep looking for it! I, actually, thought that I had already posted this song but came to discover that I hadn't, tonight. I must have [the usual] gotten distracted, somewhere along the line! :-/

Dana Fuchs Band - Strung Out

I discovered this woman, just a few weeks back, and wondered where the heck I had been where I had never even heard of her, before! And...she was even in a movie that I had never heard of! WILD! Anyway...I LOVE her voice and found a song that has her not screaming too much because she's got that Janice Joplin thing going on; but, man...what an incredibly powerful voice she has! Hope you enjoyed this song. I guess I found her when I was looking for an Etta James song that I had seen Etta do on a PBS Special, some years back, that I wanted to post. Dana, here, does an incredible cover of Etta James' 'I'd Rather Go Blind.'



And...if you enjoy this song, I, highly, recommend you listen to the aforementioned song, along with the many others that are posted on uboob. They're quite good.

And...here, also, is the movie that Dana starred in, as Sadie, for all you Beatles "freaks," called 'Across the Universe' :-) I'd like to see the movie, just because it's quite an "artsy" looking movie and...I've never seen it, before. I would also like to see more of Dana's songs in it, as well, like her singing in this song, 'Don't Let Me Down.' Gonna hafta rent this movie, soon. Looks interesting. :-)
